Day 0: CoronaBlog 1 (launch)

As you may know, the Spanish government has taken far-reaching measures to contain and counter spreading of the Covid-19 virus on Spanish territory. So far, around 8.000 people in Spain have been infected and almost 300 persons have lost their lives, unfortunately.

The authorities have declared national ‘estado de alarma’, which means that shops, restaurants and bars are closed, as parks, beaches and all leisure activities, transport is reduced to a minimum and we, people living in Spain, are only allowed to leave our houses with a valid reason (going to work, doctor or pharmacy or to buy groceries). This ‘confinamiento’ or home quarantaine has totally changed the lives of all Spaniards as well of Boni and me. The lock-down is in place as of 15 March and will apply for 15 days. Looking at the rise of infections in Spain and other European countries, it is expected to get extended.

For Boni and me, the impact is huge. We can no longer go to the park or play on the beach. We can not enjoy lunch or drink coffee on a terrace. We can not welcome friends in our house. Luckily, we are allowed to walk (thanks to Boni, if ‘functional’) but we should keep distance to others. The situation is surreal, being locked-up in a deserted Barcelona, yet necessary to make Spain Corona-proof. That is why I decided to keep a kind of Corona diary, a lock-down logbook, to share our adventures in these bizarre times with you.

Enjoy the read, Stay Safe and Stay Home.
